aria2 has a xml-rpc server built-in now that makes writing gui frontends easier. I would like to see a gui for aria2 since it supports bittorrent too.

I download the file with IDM in MS windows.

    It takes 2:55 minutes

Axel and Aria2c are the fastest

Please test multiget if you can, its the closest equivalent of Windows DM and is quite fast.

Re: The fastest linux downlaod managers ever

that is not a good benchmark file to download...

It only gets about 60-80 kbps, and it is not stable. So you are running at or near peak for the server. In other words, your connection might not be the bottleneck...

    *searches around teh interwebz)

ok, here a couple files which should be big enough. they are also on a pretty fast server (I get 400-600 kb/sec). The 115 mb would be best... but I understand you might not want to wait that long to download a file that big each time. So the 35 mb or 46 mb would suffice.

    ~35 mb file:

    http://www.gtlib.gatech.edu/pub/sunf...0-x86-local.gz

    the ~46 mb file:

    http://www.gtlib.gatech.edu/pub/sunf...intel-local.gz

    the 115 mb file:

    http://www.gtlib.gatech.edu/pub/sunf...0-x86-local.gz

don't worry about what they are. I don't know I just picked them because of their size and location (on a fast server). Any data based on downloading anything smaller than that 35 mb file is worthless IMO... and it needs to be on a fast server.

If you're going to do it, do it right

also, repeat the test at least 3 time per trial and get an average.
