Will FireFox 3.5 be an update or an install?

I asked this question at the end of someone else's thread where it's probably about to fall off the radar, so here goes again.

Will FireFox 3.5 show up in Update Manager as an update after the gurus have finished their testing, or will it be a manual install to upgrade thru Synaptic?

I'm in no hurry to get 3.5 I just want to know if it will be an update or a manual task to install it when its ready.

    Thanks,
    eb

You will manually have to install it via a third party repository or the official Firefox website. Once a stable version of Ubuntu is released it keeps static versions of the software. They only update for bug fixes and security fixes, not for new features or versions.

Go to google news > sci/tech and read about all the bugs in 3.5
    People are freaking out.

Firefox 3.5 beta 4 is in the standard repos already. The final version of 3.5 is loosely classed as update and will appear in jaunty-updates.
It's currently in testing and will be available soon.

Hmmm, looks like I'll be waiting a few weeks for 3.5.1 before trying the new FireFox. (or maybe til 9.10 ships with it)

Its not a security update or anything so its not mission critical to update to it right now

It will not appear in jaunty-updates, as it is disallowed in jaunty-proposed where it must go first for testing. It will be available [officially] in Ubuntu 9.10. If you can't wait the Mozilla daily PPA[1] is the next best place to get it from.

I'd suggest waiting. I don't like the new firefox (not impressive.)

Swiftfox merged theirs over (so it's not all weird)

The final version of Firefox-3.5 (branded as Shiretoko) has already gone through to jaunty-updates: http://packages.ubuntu.com/jaunty-updates/firefox-3.5
Where did you get the idea it was disallowed?

I really would not recommend the Mozilla Daily PPA to users. They will end up with a development version of 3.5.1!
