    Monolith

Monolith - for all rants mono

***** Welcome to the monolithic mono rant thread *****

    Background:

Mono is open source and is released under the GPL.

You can read the details here : Mono Home Page: FAQ Licensing

And the source code is here: Mono Home Page: Downloads

Finally the Sticky: Ubuntu Technical Board Mono Position Statement

This thread is created to give a voice for all those who oppose Mono, but we are in trun asking you to keep your opinions / rants / anit-mono propaganda out of the support threads.

I would remind you that the Code of conduct still applies on this thread.

    Re: Monolith

The purpose of this thread is to give space to people who wish to rant. We do not want to silence them and in fact encourage Civil debate. Just keep it out of the support threads please.

If ranting continues on support threads we will move them here and start issuing infractions.

The purpose of these forums is support, not ranting about Mono.

People are welcome to their opinion so long as they do not violate the code of conduct or interfere with our primary mission : Ubuntu support and community.

    Re: Monolith

one only has to look at what MS has done to the ODF initiative to see that they can very well use an "open" project as a trojan horse .
if it ain't broke you haven't tweaked it enough

AFAIK MS didn't do anything to ODF initiative they just paid a lot of people (illegally) to promote OpenXML (the competitor of ODF)

proof that would meet the standards of a trial no , however it was widely reported at the time about "contributions" that went to some 3rd (and some 1st) world countries that then switched their votes or made them on the side of OOXML .
