Question Trash bin. Recovering deleted files.

Hi guys, wondering how to recover a file that was "moved" to the trash bin. In windows you had the ability to restore files sent to the "recycle" bin. Is there some command in ubuntu to do this as well? Or do I have to resort to a program that does this (photorec)?

    Thanks!

About the same as in Windows, right click on the file and select Restore.

I right click over the files yet do not see "Restore" as an option.

I am using Ubuntu 8.04.2, is that available in this version?

any keyboard command that I can hit to do this?

Is there a 'restore' option? I always thought you had to manually move them back from trash. (Personally I never delete anything that I want to keep, but I did by accident rarely. Nautilus does not have an 'undo' feature like Dolphin/Explorer, but in general it seems more professional than finder/dolphin/explorer)

Yes I agree, the occasional mistake delete occurs. I have not been able to find restore. How do you manually move files back from trash?

Re: Trash bin. Recovering deleted files.

On GNOME, considering you did not permanently delete them, you can add the trash applet to the panel, by default it is there and located at the bottom right. I believe also the side pane on Nautilus (file manager) has a link to the trash.

To really manually find deleted files, you have to show hidden files, and some drives have a .trash folder, with the user id appended to it. (.trash_1000). GNOME uses a virtual file system to manage trash folders.

9.04 Jaunty has the restore feature. Older versions of ubuntu must manually move files back. Right click copy and paste back whence they came.

Is the restore upstream GNOME? If so I really will stick with GNOME, they are actually adding personally useful features.
