    Installing Firefox in Lubuntu will also pull in the firefox-globalmenu package. Try ininstalling it, then logout/in.

    I'm a bit of a newbie to the whole thing I'm afraid, where should I go to do this without screwing up firefox?

    Synaptic Package Manager, alternatively, run this in a terminal window:

    sudo apt-get remove firefox-globalmenu

    Either way should not screw up anything.

    You can also uninstall it using the Software Center. Just launch it, search for firefox-globalmenu, select the result and click the remove button.
