    installation problem

    Hi there,

    I've just installed xubunu 9.04. When I now start my computer (an old laptop) a black, MS-DOS-like screen with white characters occurs. I don't know what kinds of commands to give in such a system, and of course I want to have something like the screenshots on xubuntu.com promised me. I'm just a beginner in the ubuntu world and I don't know much about computers and software. So, if anyone can help me out of this problem, please keep it as simple as possible!

    Re: installation problem

    At first, all kind of things are checked and the computer says everything is OK. Then, it tells me to insert my username and password. When I've done that, some instructions appear on the screen and at the bottom of the screen this occurs:
    <username@username: ~$>
    and behind that, I have to fill in a command, just as in MS-DOS. But I don't know any commands, and if I try something, it says:
    <-bash: <command>: command not found.>
    The thing I want is to get into is a normal system on which I can work in the same way as in Windows.
