I took out a DVD from the drive without first unmounting it from Ubuntu, and there was a leftover DVD icon on the desktop. Of course when I tried to unmount it, it said "There is probably no media in the drive". When I tried to delete it, it just stayed there. Finally, after rebooting it went away, but my question is: is there's any (better) way of getting rid of it without having to reboot? (Or, is there any way to make icons go away automatically when you remove media from the drive?) I suspect I will forget to explicitly unmount a CD/DVD next time I use one, so it'd be nice to know how to deal with leftover icons without rebooting. Thanks.
