    Ubuntu safe mode?

    Hello from NZ,

Does Ubuntu have a 'safe mode'? Within minutes of each other, I have installed Kubuntu -Desktop and an ATI driver, restarted the machine and now i am looking at a blank screen.
It gets past the boot screen and that's it, a blank screen.

Can anyone help or do i have to reinstall Jaunty?

    Regards

'Safe Mode' would be the recovery mode kernel in your Grub list (Press ESC when grub starts to load).

The problem would be ATI driver. Afraid I have no experience with it myself though. You wont need to reinstall, just disable or fix the driver. Perhaps look around the forums a bit. I see plenty of people with the same issue.

    Re: Ubuntu safe mode?

when you boot up in grub it should say ubuntu 9.04 and then under that it sould say some other thing and at the bottum it shoud say mem test x86 one of them between the mem test anf ubuntu 9.04 should say recovery mode so use that (note if you have installed inside windows then you need to press escape when it tells you to then grub appears)
