Weird Problem With FLAC and LAME
Jaunty Desktop 64 Bit on AMD Phenom II X4 940 3.2GHz Quad-Core with 8 GB of ram.
I'm trying to convert a large library of FLAC files to V0 MP3s.
I'm decoding the FLAC files using "FLAC -d *.flac"
While they are decoding conky shows flac as using anywhere from 6-25% of my CPU and 0.02% Memory. But if I try and do anything else while its working the other programs (firefox for example) freeze. This is really annoying as I have a couple thousand files for it to go through and if its not going to use all of my resources to go through then I should at least be able to search the web. Anyone have any idea why this happening?
This also happens when using LAME to encode them, it seems anything running from a terminal involving music renders my system useless.
Re: Weird Problem With FLAC and LAME
bump for any ideas?
after some more monkeying around with this i've narrowed it down to being just the FLAC conversion, LAME seems to be fine.
