iPod Issues

I'm not 100% sure how this happened but my ipod(classic 160GB) will not be read by windows or ubuntu.
Windows it asks me to format, and the only option is NTFS.
Ubuntu doesn't even see the drive except when i run photorec.
When I run gparted, it sees a drive, but it only sees it at an 18.5GB drive..

I'm not sure what I should do here.. Any suggestions?

Restoring original firmware using iTunes ought to do the trick, no?
