Sometimes Ubuntu's sound settings go to crap and everything's crackly as hell if you have an unclean shutdown (ie something crashes). It's frankly really annoying and it's been in hardy, intrepid and now it seems jaunty, and it's hit me on all 3. Anyway, just wondering, is it just an Ubuntu thing (I know some people have said OSS is poorly implemented) or would I have the same problem in Fedora, Arch, Gentoo or whatever else?

(PS also is there any way to get games in Wine working on an ATI card? On Nvidia it's fine but I stupidly bought a laptop with an ati card and I'm really regretting it, lots of flgrx-related errors in the terminal when I run dx stuff in Wine).
