Empty space in drop down menus

Is this empty space in the drop down menu a bug or some sort of a feature? This seems to happen in large menus that wont fit on the screen. See the attachment.

Sorry to drag up an old thread. This has been annoying me for a while and this is the first mention I've found.

As the OP said it seems to happen for menus larger than the screen.

The only thing I can add is that the intention seems to be that the currently selected item in the drop down menu is under the mouse after the menu is clicked... If this item is at the top of the list then all that can be shown above is empty space (see screenshot).

Is anyone else experiencing this? Does anyone know what package a bug should be filed against or if one already exists?
