A quick look on Google seems to hint that that's the way Indians do things.

Any Indians want to comment on this?

Note: I'm not interested in the rest of the article, just point 3. It never really occured to me before that different nationalities could have possibly unique computer use traits.

I think I'm completely clean of my 15 years using Windows, because I don't remember the option to refresh the desktop. I do remember that the freaking Active Desktop crashed a lot and was a pain to get it back without rebooting.

WTF? Refresh? I've been using windows since 3.1, and never even noticed that refresh option. I clicked it and nothing happened. What is it supposed to do? What does clicking it 5 or 6 times do?

(Yeah, I'm on XP at the moment, usung a fiend's laptop, please don't hate me )

hahaha i was on my friends computer the other day who recently switched back to xp from ubuntu. and i said to him "does everything not seem a bit stone age on this compared to ubuntu??"
"at least everything works properly"
i replied with "clearly" pointing at the active desktop recovery. xD

he insisted it was just his wallpaper amazing wallpaper to have a working button...

It's funny . We used to talk about this in college. I don't know how it started and make it to that blog but i 've noticed people do that i used to do it myself. I haven't been outside india so i wouldn't know about other people. I remember one day we were going out and a friend of mine says he's busy someone then said "what are you gonna do refresh desktop"

The person who wrote the blog probably was in funny mood or atleast i hope so. I think there is not much to do in XP (windows) when you don't have any work and probably bored. Right click -> Refresh is a nice time pass but definitely not a reason to choose windows over ubuntu.

Why did you think this has something to do with culture. Just because that blog used the word Ritual. Right click -> Refresh is a nice time pass when your boss does not let you play solitaire. What do think we refresh, rings some bells light up candles before shutting down the computer.
