Looking to build an Ubuntu SFF PC...

Hi all,

I want to build a SFF pc that will run ubuntu 9.04. My current laptop has a pentium m processor and everything runs slowly so i want to get a much better processor for the SFF system (preferably amd athlon x2 or intel core 2 duo or maybe the awesome intel core i7) The SFF pc wil have a micro ATX mother board so i need a processor compatible with that. Also any suggestions for graphics cards or ram or hard drives would also be helpful.

The notebook is only compatible with processors pentium M. Also your memory is expansible up to 2 GB 533 MHz. However, can you explain what this slow ?

Compiz doesn't make it slower

Sometimes when i close the laptop lid with firefox running and when i open the lid 24 hours later firefox crashes and the hard drive spins for a really long time (and causes a lot of heat) The hard drive doesn't stop spinning unless i do a hard reboot (holding the power button on the laptop for 5 seconds). That is one thing that makes it slow

Also when i open up any menu in gnome it takes 10 seconds to load the menu's text and another 5 seconds to load the pictures.

And other times it just feels slow... (can't explain why)

The laptop has 503mb ram

I know it is only compatible with pentium m. i was asking that i am about to build a new computer with a new processor. Since my laptop is so slow i want to build something much faster
