Re: Wireless issues with WUSB54GC v3

Does anyone know how we can go about having this driver included in the next release of Ubuntu?

It seems like there are quite a few of these RT3070 chips out there now.

I don't know much about this dkms thing but it seems to be able to take care of the VirtualBox drivers on my system automatically as kernels are upgraded. Why wouldn't it be able to do the same with tis Ralink driver?

Should this question be asked in another forum topic?

Re: Wireless issues with WUSB54GC v3

Has anyone got this working in Ubuntu 9.10? I get compile errors when I run step 6: make && make install.

I have tried the 1.4 and the 2.2 versions from Ralinks website.

    Help is appreciated.

Re: Wireless issues with WUSB54GC v3

rt2870h is not present in /include. I found it in /include/chip. Dummy as I am, is this the file to be replaced and does this solution than still works?
I downloaded 2009_0820_RT2870_Linux_STA_V2.2.0.0 as being the latest from the ralink site, seems to be the most logical thing to do, but is it really the best thing to do?

system ubuntu 9.10 karmic koala 64 bit.
    WUSB54GC V3 from Linksys Cisco.

Can anybody give me the absolute foolproof walktrough for dummy´s or give me the ndiswrapper alternative method for the Vista drivers on the DVD. I´m not a computer neard like most of you. Thought these kind of issues were something of the past when I had to install analog modems in Suse back in the nineties, but to my great surprise these kind of issues are still a part of the linux community.

    Urgent HELP WANTED.

Re: Wireless issues with WUSB54GC v3

Just two days ago I followed JordanL's post #98 on page 10 above and it worked immediately for me on an Ubuntu 9.04 system. Note that he (and I) used 2009_0525_RT3070_Linux_STA_v2.1.1.0 which is the one listed for RT3070 USB on the Ralink web site. There are a couple of minor typos and I did not have to do the last 2 steps because it worked fine without them.

I cannot speak for 9.10 or 64-bit; perhaps someone else can.

YES!! I followed the instructions in post #98 on a fresh install of 9.04 and it works! Special thanks to Radixor, jimbob, and JordanL for your time and expertise. That was a rough introduction to Linux/Ubuntu, but I have to admit I learned a lot. Thanks again guys.

Re: Wireless issues with WUSB54GC v3

I followed both instructions in Radixor 's post and JordanL 's post (#98). When I followed Radixor 's, my USB adapters can recognize networks but canno connect my Ubuntu PC to the network. JordanL 's instructions make my system work in Ubuntu 9.04 (I am using WUSB54GC version 3 id: 1737:0077 too). Thanks JordanL, Radixor and jimbob.

    I made a few modifications:
    1. Step3 in #98 could not be done as the link does not exist. Thus, I actually googled for the file with the same name.
    2. This same instructions work for Fedora 10 too. I just need to make a small change in step 5( gedit /etc/modules/ becomes gedit/etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf.dist )

Can anyone advise what changes needs to be done in the steps explained at #98 to make it work with 9.10?

Question Re: Wireless issues with WUSB54GC v3

When I tried to put in the code:

    wget http://www.ralink.com.tw/data/driver....4.0.0.tar.bz2

    I get this error message:

Re: Wireless issues with WUSB54GC v3

I just noticed that on the Ralink web site they have a new version of the RT3070USB driver listed with the date of 11/06/2009. Don't know but this may be the version needed for 9.10.

I'll give it a try later today or tomorrow and let you know.

For the poster above, the web site for Ralink (linux) is http://www.ralinktech.com/support.php?s=2
