    Why Banshee and Rhythmbox ?

I am just wondering what they do that Amarok and Exaile can't do better. I am not trying to cause a flame war, but merely to pare down my installation. I have the kitchen sink installed on here.

I have noticed if any of my multimedia apps give me trouble for playback it would be banshee or rhythmbox. I am beginning to think that SMPlayer is the absolute Only one that is needed - it will play things that VLC won't play for me.

Am I missing something? I am no Linux guru yet, I still use Windows about half of the time so I may be missing out on what is special about these two apps.

    Opine away...

    I just tried to play an MP3 DVD I have with all of my multimedia players. The results are interesting, maybe you can shed some light;

    1. Amarok. played great
    2. Banshee skipped during playbac,
    3. exaile. skipped during playback
    4. vlc. played great
    5. Smplayer, played great
    6.rhythmbox, skipped during playback
    7. audacity played great.
    8. Listen. skipped during playback then crashed completely

I've found Amarok (1.4) to be the best. But even then it seems the amarok team could do lot better:

issues (and the fact that I run x64 may be factor in some):

    1. Can't open playlists/.cue
    2. Occasional gaps in ogg playback (even get gaps with mp3 ripped gapless!)--this seems to be a xine engine issue
    3. Usually refuses to fetch cddb info for audiocds
    4. Wiki artist lookup stopped working for some reason
    5. Amarok lacks enough hotkeys/keyboard shortcuts--have to resort to mouse alltoo often
    6. can't read m4a/aac tags
