    sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install medibuntu-keyring && sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install libdvdcss2
    sudo apt-get install w32codecs
    sudo apt-get install libdvdread4
    sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh
    sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

    Re: error when trying to view DVD

    I did every single thing here, installed all the necessary things....and it still tells me I don't have permission.

    And, like I just said, I did EVERYTHING mentioned here. What the hell is going on??? Why won't it work???

    I had the same problem. The problem still occurs with movie player however these steps did resolve the problem for vlc.

    Re: error when trying to view DVD

    I'm also having the same problem.

    I did all of the above but it's still not working - both with Totem and VLC.
    Totem just disagrees that it's even there - it doesn't even give me any error messages - just ignores it.

    VLC opens up a random window and will go to the menu but give me no control. The bar which normally has the playback stuff isn't there and I can't skip to other chapters - even by right clicking.
    Some DVDs will just stop at the warning and not going any further.

    What am I doing wrong?
    Please help. It's driving me crazy. I may just have to turn to booze and drugs if I can't get it working
