That requires a BIOS flash, though. The (very buggy) factory AAO BIOS doesn't support boot from SD card.

both my card readers seem to work fine, but the 'storage expansion' slot on the left is coming up as a separate drive - is it possibly under jaunty to merge this with the SSD (as happens automatically under Linpus)? how is this done?

don't know if this has been covered already, can't find anything on it...

One option could be to tell the partition manager to mount the SD card as /home. I believe that's what Linpus does.

it involves a clean install, but im sure there may be another way of doing it.

anywho ... put sd card in left slot

start the install process via cd or usb pen
when it gets to the partition bit click on the "manual" button
there you will see your ssd drive and your sd card.

double click on your ssd drive set to ext2 or what ever file system you want and then select the mount point, for this choose / also select the format option.(so the partition will be reformatted)

double click the sd card as above select file system , and set mount point to /home , and then select format option

then just follow the onscreen prompts.

    good luck!

Re: 9.04 Jaunty on Acer Aspire One

I am posting this for documentation purposes even though I posted it else where. I was hoping someone would be able to tell me what the syslog messages meant...especially "Refusing to bind to secondary interface"

I have been trying to get this SD card reader working. I have an Acer Aspire One netbook with 8gig flash memory and 2 SD readers on left and right side of the box. I get the below syslog messages after doing a mount -a

    Code:
May 11 12:06:12 imp kernel: [ 7.151622] sdhci: Secure Digital Host Controller Interface driver
    May 11 12:06:12 imp kernel: [ 7.151630] sdhci: Copyright(c) Pierre Ossman
    May 11 12:06:12 imp kernel: [ 7.157417] sdhci-pci 0000:04:00.0: SDHCI controller found [197b:2382] (rev 0)
    May 11 12:06:12 imp kernel: [    7.157463] sdhci-pci 0000:04:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 19 (level, low) -> IRQ 19
May 11 12:06:12 imp kernel: [ 7.158076] mmc0: SDHCI controller on PCI [0000:04:00.0] using ADMA
    May 11 12:06:12 imp kernel: [ 7.158110] sdhci-pci 0000:04:00.2: SDHCI controller found [197b:2381] (rev 0)
    May 11 12:06:12 imp kernel: [    7.158147] sdhci-pci 0000:04:00.2: PCI INT A -> GSI 19 (level, low) -> IRQ 19
May 11 12:06:12 imp kernel: [ 7.158164] sdhci-pci 0000:04:00.2: Refusing to bind to secondary interface.
    May 11 12:06:12 imp kernel: [ 7.158179] sdhci-pci 0000:04:00.2: PCI INT A disabled
If I plug or unplug the card from the interface I get the following log message.

    Code:
    May 11 13:00:16 imp kernel: [ 3255.643127] mmc0: error -84 whilst initialising SD card
Anyone know what these logs mean and better yet how can I fix the issue.

Re: 9.04 Jaunty on Acer Aspire One

Just to follow up: decided to install over UNR with a straight Jaunty full install, using the Bootable USB option off another computer running the LiveCD.

I prefer the full desktop, and didn't hit any of the issues I'd had trying to get UNR running in classic desktop mode. I left the 'LED fix' out just in case it was the cause of my troubles.

Looks like UNR desktop switching needs a good polish-up, and until then, at least a warning that it might nark up your system.

Full desktop works great with Compiz etc - so slick and impressive, I'm well chuffed with my AAO now - didn't give Linpus more than a couple of minutes.

@Crosbie - You stated you initially had trouble getting SD card working. Did installing the full version fix that?

I am still using the acerfand script which can be found here.

The problem I had was that on 9.04 UNR it was not running the script /usr/local/bin/acerfand located at /etc/rc.local
    A workaround for this is:

Follow the instructions here. But don't do the To run it at boot: part. Instead do this:

    Code:
    sudo visudo
Add this line at the end:

    Code:
    <username> ALL= NOPASSWD: /usr/local/bin/acerfand
ctrl+X to exit and Y to save the changes.

Then go to Preferences -> Startup Applications and click Add.

    Code:
    Name: Fan Control
    Command: sudo /usr/local/bin/acerfand
This will run the script once you log into your session. Not perfect but it works.
