    Re: Headphone Audio not working in 9.04

    Hi,
    My problem is similar; I hope someone could help. I have a Dell Dimension C521 w/ Sound Blaster Audigy MB. Although I have tried some of the suggestions on this thread, e.g., set playback to surround sound, still no headphone sound.

    aplay -l shows:
    **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
    card 0: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 0: STAC92xx Analog [STAC92xx Analog]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

    and I have Sound Preferences all set to ALSA, and Default Mixer Tracks, Device: HDA NVidia

    Do I need to modify the alsa-base.conf in some way?

    Any help would be much appreciated.

Anyone know how to get the dvd burner working properly? lol
    I own an Asus G50 series laptop, and I confirm that this works for this series.

    Thumbs down Re: Headphone Audio not working in 9.04

    I want to confirm that adding
    options snd-hda-intel model=g71v
    to the end of
    /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
    works for my Asus g50vt-x2.

    Thanks =)

    I solve it!

    I referenced the page:
    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting

    1. First, You can check whether your computer has been install build-essential and module-assistant, whether your linux header is updated, whether you has the alsa source.
      Code:
      $ sudo apt-get install \
      build-essential linux-headers-$(uname -r) module-assistant alsa-source
    2. Use dpkg-reconfigure to reconfigure alsa-source
      Code:
      $ sudo dpkg-reconfigure alsa-source
    3. Now you have 2 ways to be access the success.
      • One is through module-assistant:
        Code:
        sudo module-assistant a-i alsa-source
      • The other is through manually compilation:
        Code:
        cd /usr/src
        sudo tar xjvf alsa-driver.tar.bz2
        cd module/alsa-driver
        sudo ./configure  --with-kernel=/usr/src/linux-headers-$(uname -r) \
        --with-cards=ALC888 \
        --with-oss=yes
        sudo make
        sudo make install

      If you don't have got any error message, congratulations! Just reboot and enjoy it!
    This broke my existing sound!!

    Now my laptop has neither headphone nor speaker audio.

    Don't know if this will help, but in 10.10, with my Asus G50Vt I added this line to the end of alsa-base.conf and it worked great!

    options snd-hda-intel model=asus-mode3

    Hope this helps someone!!!

    I'm quite sorry about that. But my solution is not an universe one. At least it just works well on my laptop.

    To your case, I guess if you have changed your kernel or something kernel modules that worked on old kernel well originally.

    Maybe you can find the latest sound card driver and re-compile your kernel.

    Good luck.

    This worked for my Asus G50v running Mint 11

    I've reinstalled mint 4 times trying a all sorts of fixes most which involved rebuilding kernels and inserting modules, all of which eventually broke my sound. I should have known to check ubuntu forums FIRST

    THANK YOU TINKA!!!!
