    Realtec ALC663 not working :(

I have the speaker icon in the top right taskbar, it even shows the name of it "HDA ATI SB - ALC663 Analog (pulseaudio Mixer)" but I have no audio.

    aplay -l shows:
    Code:
    aplay: device_list:217: no soundcards found...
    lspci -v shows:
    Code:

Okay, after purging and reinstalling the following packs: linux-sound-base alsa-base alsa-utils

I got aplay to list it:
    Code:
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 0: ALC663 Analog [ALC663 Analog]
      Subdevices: 1/1
      Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 1: ALC663 Digital [ALC663 Digital]
      Subdevices: 1/1
      Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: HDMI [HDA ATI HDMI], device 3: ATI HDMI [ATI HDMI]
      Subdevices: 1/1
      Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
However, I still have no audio... :/

    Problem solved.
    Code:
    # Please try this procedure:

    # Step 1: Open Terminal from "Applications->Accessories->
    Terminal"

#Step 2: Run the following command (copy/paste each command into the Terminal and then hit <enter>)

    sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base

    # Add the following 5 lines to the end of the alsa-base file:

    options snd-pcsp index=-2
    alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
    alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
    options snd-hda-intel model=m51va
    options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1

    # Run the following command (copy/paste each command into the Terminal and then hit <enter>)

    sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/options

    # Add the following 5 lines to the end of the options file:

    options snd-pcsp index=-2
    alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
    alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
    options snd-hda-intel model=m51va
    options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1

    # Step 3: Reboot pc and retest sound.

    # Step 4: If audio output still does not work, please try one of the following model options (instead of m51va):

     ALC662/663
       3stack-dig 3-stack (2-channel) with SPDIF
       3stack-6ch 3-stack (6-channel)
       3stack-6ch-dig 3-stack (6-channel) with SPDIF
       6stack-dig 6-stack with SPDIF

       g50v ASUS G50V

I don't even have an ASUS m51va, however I figured a soundcard is a soundcard, it should work... and it did work.

Re: Realtec ALC663 not working :(

Hello. I am also having this issue where my ALC63 card isn't working. When I run the command, sudo gedit /ect/modprob.d/alsa-base, there is nothing there. but I can open the same file in gedit manually. When I put the option code listed in the solution at the end of the file, I am unable to open or find the options file that I am suppose to open next. I new to Lnux, and only have a basic understanding of whats going on, but this doesn't seem right. if anyone could please help me on this I would be eternally grateful. Thanks!!

P.S. I am running Ubuntu 9.10 on a ASUS G50VT Laptop with Realtek HD audio

Re: Realtec ALC663 not working :(

Funny, i have the same problem at my home PC.
Audio doesn't work, even on Windows (XP, Vista, Seven). Its Asus M3A78-EMH HDMI.

I think something wrong with it, because i cant install(run) drivers in Windows.
    and also
    Code:
    no sound device
    in Linux.

I'm so happy i have a Thinkpad laptop
    IBM Lenovo Thinkpad R500: Ubuntu 10.10 (KDE) x86 & Windows 7
