    Exclamation Ubuntu wont shutdown/restart properly.

hey guys, im having this strange problem, that whenever i go to shutdown/restart my computer, it shows the ubuntu log screen, then goes to a blank screen, with a flashing underscore, the only way i can turn it off/restart it, is by turning it off manually, or pressing ctrl+alt+del, then when i boot up, it scans the hdd, which takes a while, anyone know whats wrong with it/how to fix it?

I'm aware of some people with wireless cards in their computer having trouble shuttingdown 9.04, part of the solution seems to be to shut down networking or wireless (sorry no link comes to mind)

Scanning the HDD every 30 boots or so is normal.
