    Question H3640U and Ubuntu

    http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...IN#detailspecs

I found this device and it is an great price for an external HD but I want to know if anyone has used this device on Ubuntu? I would be using the device to backup my systems. It states is supports Windows and Mac OS X which makes me think that it will be detected under Ubuntu (just the built in backup program won't work).

I asked this question on Yahoo! Answers as well and got a response (see the link above).

It should work fine if you use the USB connection on it. External Hard Drives should just be seen as removable Media by Ubuntu.

I have to say that the Hitachi is one of the ugliest External Hard Drives I've ever seen.

I'd have to agree that it looks ugly. But if I wanted performance and looks I would go for this external Hard Drive here.

I am not paying $140 for a 750GB external HD. Especially since I don't care about looks and speed really isn't a factor either. As long as my computer is fast, my backups can happen overnight.

    Re: H3640U and Ubuntu

After talking to my wife I decided not to get the H3640U and instead get the following drive:
