Ubuntu 9.04 Mouse has a life of its own!

Hi, when I tried the 'Try Ubuntu without installing' function,
everything loaded up just fine. However, once my mouse(Actually trackpad since I don't use a mouse) went over the 'examples folder' it opened up. everything I hovered over started opening up. GIMP/FSPOT/Openoffice, basically everything my cursor flew over started opening up by itself. Its as if its doing some hidden double clicking on everything. I opened up a text document to try typing something, and I couldn't because the mouse would always reset the typing cursor to wherever the mouse was.

    Please help!

I thought it was a problem with the 'test without installation' mode, so i loaded up the install and i couldn't even select my timezone properly or any of the pull down menus because of this.

    Thanks

    Also here's some additional info:
    Laptop: Lenovo t60
OS: I'm using the windows partition now as i type this. I'm intending to do a dual boot. I've cleared one partition to be used by ubuntu.

Weird thing is that 8.10 intrepid ibex worked fine out of the metaphorical box for me. This is highly vexing. Hmm.
