9.04 Fail on clean install Kernel Panic

Trying to install 9.04 here. so far no go with the following installs.

    kubuntu/ubuntu : i368 : Bug int 14 CR2 ffffb0f0

    Kubuntu/ubuntu : amd64 : PANIC: early exception 0e rip 10: ffffffff80226a93 error 0 cr2 ffffffffff5fc0f0

    the hardware is the following
    intel core 2 duo E6400
foxconn 945 mobo (except for the realtek sound thats off and nic all standard 945 intel stuff)
    4gb RAM
    Nvidia 9800GT
    X-fi Sound card

I've done a little search about and it's either a regression patch issue or something new.
link to report on the patch.
    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ux/+bug/312554

If anyone can give me a push in the right direction would be useful. also i have got no idea how you go about patching the kernel on a clean install. help would be appreciated. Thank You in advance.

Re: 9.04 Fail on clean install Kernel Panic

just as an update to my ongoing fun with ubuntu 9.04 used kubuntu 9.04 alt cd and got it installed and booting to grub. when the kernel is loaded it stops with the following which is more detailed than before.
    BUG: Int 14: CR2 ffffb0f0

also tried the new OpenSUSE beta with has a 2.6.29 and not a 2.6.28 like 9.04. Seems it does almost the same thing but just gives me the message of not enough memory to load kernel

    please help anyone! thanks.

the bug listed at the top of this post ::> https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ux/+bug/312554
appears not to be the same issue as the one i've posted. this was confirmed by Felix Geyer.

yep, I am pretty sure it is the mobo, whenver I build a new linux system I make sure that the mobo is from a linux friendly manufacturer(I personally prefer ASUS).

This is generally due to a poorly written bios, see if you can update your bios and try again.Tho foxconn is very well know for being very linux unfriendly

hope your problem gets sorted out soon

Re: 9.04 Fail on clean install Kernel Panic

waspbr, tried the bios no go.
I know how many feel towards foxconn it's mainly thier customer support that sucks and cheap hack programmers they hire. that guys BIOS for example, had the same issue with one of thier boards ended up i got them to fix it and give me the patch, few years ago now but they did it without issue. (mind you it was a server board)
But i've been using this board for nearly 2 years heck well over two years now i think about it. without a problem. now it just doesn't work.... come on it's the bios or mobo thats at fault? do the math. 2 years no problems, latest kernel no go.......mmmmmm

Re: 9.04 Fail on clean install Kernel Panic

OK, this is just stupid. As in stupid I mean strange.
Seems to solve the problem. Wipe your CMOS. Maybe updating BIOS helped but as soon as the CMOS was reset OS booted. 32 and 64bit.
All the same settings as before are back in the BIOS but not issues now. seems the issue was a ghost setting in the old BIOS maybe. Anyways.

    FIX:
    Update BIOS
    Clear CMOS
    Check settings.
