9.04 - Samsung R50 with ATI Radeon X700 no SUSPEND

I really love ubuntu and was really hoping that with 9.04 I could finally use it on my laptop. But unfortunately suspend to ram/disk STILL doesn't work... I'm not very tech savvy, but is there really nothing I can do to make it work?

It used to work with the fglrx drivers, but I can't use them because they give me other more severe problems.

Using the standard open source ati drivers without any modifications.

Re-install 8.04 or 8.10 with the fglrx driver.

As I said in the OP, using the fglrx drivers are not an option (in 8.04, 8.10 and 9.04), because they give me flickering videos, laggy compiz and some other minor issues. The open source drivers are perfectly fine with everything, it's just the suspend mode...
