Note that the blacklist for your chipset was present for a reason - EXA/DRI1 must have been causing crashes. Whilst UXA/DRI2 may be more stable, it's equally likely that it will be more unstable. All you can do is test yourself (and be prepared for the consequences ).
Thanks for the reply. I would find a workaround, however, I'm not really as interested in Compiz on Gnome as I am in KDE, which was working (yet a bit slower) until I did your workaround. Now Compiz on KDE works faster on my laptop with the minimal effects I have running and that's really all I wanted. If Compiz worked in Gnome, meaning not being blacklisted, after the workaround, it would have just been a bonus, but it's not an issue. I like the KDE environment a lot more, especially KDE 4.

Many thanks for the guide and keep up the great work.

    Thanks for this gr8 guide.

I just add the repository and i got my nvidia drivers updated and working.
    I'm using a custom built kernel 2.6.30

Re: HOWTO: Jaunty Intel Graphics Performance Guide

I have an "HP Compaq Presario V4000". The first time I've installed Ubuntu 9.04 I was disappointed for the desktop performance. Yesterday, I've found this guide and installed the new drivers. I had a freezing of desktop - mouse and keyboard. Then, I installed the kernel 2.6.30. Everything works very well ( until now ). The improvement is significance. The deference in desktop performance between old and new drivers - kernel is like the difference between day and night. Now I can keep the ubuntu installation on my notebook. Thank you

    PS. Sorry for my english

A quick update on my previous comments -- it wasn't "Loading securityfs" that was failing, it was loading the AppArmor modules, which is addressed in Bug #375422. So, I guess folks who need AppArmor should not be using the "Bleeding Edge" method (no real surprise there). Other than that, the Bleeding Edge method has worked perfectly for me with my Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS integrated video card. As a bonus, it seems that Bug #193419 is fixed (that might have nothing to do with the "Bleeding Edge" changes, but I'm happy about it, nonetheless).

Re: HOWTO: Jaunty Intel Graphics Performance Guide

    Hello,

I recently upgraded Ubuntu to Jaunty on my old Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo M7400 notebook.
My graphics card is intel 82852/855GM.

I followed the optimal method but after some time got regular freezes of X's. I could ssh remotely, the mouse moved but the keyboard was unresponsive and clicks were ignored.
Initially I could find in the logs that syndaemon caused a segfault in libX11 (I think).
I deactivated syndaemon's but the freezes continued - this time with nothing appearing in the logs. Then I rolled back the modifications of safe/optimal but keeping the fixmbbtr script. Still freezes. Then I erased the fixmbtr script and the freezes still occur!
There does not seem to be anything specific which causes them.

<rant>I was using Linux on this laptop for 5 years I think (going through Fedora, Mandrake and then some releases of Ubuntu and NEVER had any such problem).
I cannot afford to have random freezes when giving talks at conferences - so I guess that I will have to boot into Windows XP for stability - what irony... </rant>

Let me know if someone else has this problem. My current xorg.conf is a bare bones almost empty file (automatically generated) - the only option set is
    Option "UseFBDev" "true"

I'll be grateful for any hints - if nothing happens I will abandon ship and do a clean install of some other distribution..

    Best,
    Romuald

I had the same problem with all the methods except for the "Bleeding Edge" instructions. However, I wonder if some of your issue is that you did not edit xorg.conf as instructed in the HowTo at the beginning of this thread:

I would first try double checking to make sure that you followed all the steps of the HowTo, including the edits to your xorg.conf. If that doesn't help, you might need to give the "Bleeding Edge" instructions a shot. However, be sure to keep all of psyke83's warnings and notes to heart!

Re: HOWTO: Jaunty Intel Graphics Performance Guide

Just upgraded, and chose the 'Optimal' graphics setting for my Intel integrated graphics chipset.
Video much better, and flickering black bars gone from my favourite game (SuperTuxCart) but for some reason the game runs in slow-motion. Keyboard response sluggish, entire game seems to be running slowly. But at least the black bars have gone!
    Any comments?

A couple days into using the optimal fix and the only problem I've noticed so far is that my Wobbly Windows are kind of jagged and not very smooth. I can live with that, though. Hopefully future updates will solve this problem.

Re: HOWTO: Jaunty Intel Graphics Performance Guide

    Hello.
I am using intel 82845 graphics.

This is what i get from terminal.

    ~$ lspci |grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device (rev 03)

I also have made modification to the xorg.conf file. I added the following.

    Section "Device"
    Identifier "Configured Video Device"
    Option "AccelMethod" "uxa"
    Option "EXAOptimizeMigration" "true"
    Option "MigrationHeuristic" "greedy"
Option "Tiling" "false" # i8xx users: see note in guide

    EndSection

    Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "Configured Monitor"
    EndSection

    Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Default Screen"
    Monitor "Configured Monitor"
    Device "Configured Video Device"
    EndSection

I also have installed the kernal

    abdullah@abdullah-desktop:~$ uname -a
    Linux abdullah-desktop 2.6.30-020630-generic #020630 SMP Wed Jun 10 09:45:40 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux

My system is running although there was some failures during the installation of this kernal. That i have mentioned in my previous post.

Extra VISUAL effects still cannot be enabled.

I am new to UBUNTU and i need help.

I have spent many hours on the internet to solve this problem. But still cannot find any.

    Abdullah
