Re: HOWTO: Jaunty Intel Graphics Performance Guide

hey. Using the Simple option got my flash video working better.

My computer has slowed down a little, and my touchpad is little more jerky (moreso when using small distances - but fine for major movements). BUT I SEEM TO HAVE SOME MEMORY (LEAK?) PROBLEM OR SOMETHING WITH FIREFOX. AFTER 30+ MINUTES OF USE, ITS BECOMES REALLY SLOW, AND htop
SHOWS IT USING 40%+ OF SYSTEM MEMORY...

    Thoughts on firefox?

Also, I wanted to see if I need to tweak MTRR

    sarfarosh@sarfarosh:~$ cat /proc/mtrr

Whats my base memory address, and whats the memory size for fixmtrr.sh?

    Help would be appreciated

Thanks for posting this! I managed to solve my crippling display problems (described in this thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...46#post7379146)

Some news on the current state of the Intel driver: http://anholt.livejournal.com/41132.html

    8xx users:
I tested Jaunty + xorg-edgers + kernel 2.6.30-rc7-sarvatt2 + tiling enabled. Unfortunately, tiling isn't fixed, and the Xorg.0.log displays errors regarding front buffers.

However, I also tested Karmic + xorg-edgers + kernel 2.6.30-rc7-sarvatt2 + tiling enabled. Tiling now works properly, and 2D/3D performance is excellent; I'm now getting up to 35fps in ppracer (even better than Hardy). No errors are displayed in the Xorg.0.log.

I'll try to see what's missing in the Jaunty packages.

Thanks for that, this thread has been an interesting read indeed and the Safe method really helped my intel 945GZM get up to speed, or at least improve a good deal.

OK but Savant's build is 2 days before the commit referred to by Eric's blog - so did you miss the 8xx fixes he was referring to?

Re: HOWTO: Jaunty Intel Graphics Performance Guide

Little bit frustrating, but although upgrading to 2.6.30 rc7 did wonders for my video performance (and even battery life) for some reason the great wireless support for the eeepc (904HA, basically the same architecture as the 1000h) has been ruined.

Is there any way I can resolve this on my own, or is this something up-river?

Hmm, I'm not certain. Perhaps part of the fixes were merged a few days earlier. It appears that it is working correctly, though (no errors in the logs, and 3D performance has definitely increased). I experienced some freezes during 3D operations; it could be due to Sarvatt's changes to the kernel build options, or perhaps the drm fixes weren't finalized.

    See: http://www.phoronix.com/forums/showp...&postcount=221

The -sarvatt2 kernel was built after Linus merged the drm-intel branch.

Re: HOWTO: Jaunty Intel Graphics Performance Guide

Hi, I just upgraded my Thinkpad X200 to Jaunty (well Linux Mint Gloria to be exact). I'm a new Linux user and have been very excited with 100% migrating my work/personal machine to Linux. (still have not deleted my Vista partition because I need to be 100% sure I do not need to go back).

Same problems as most of you here. Went through all 4 intel drivers from Jaunty default, to x-swat PPA stable to edgers to Intrepid 2.4 Don't feel any difference.

(I miss compiz! Can't even turn it on.)

Anyway, I'm eagerly waiting for the official update with the right driver, but in the meantime, I have a feeling that my setup is using VESA drivers. Can someone help me confirm whether this is the case? Here's what I see from my lspci -nn command:

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2a42] (rev 07)
00:02.1 Display controller [0380]: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2a43] (rev 07)

Thanks in advance for any help or feedback!

Re: HOWTO: Jaunty Intel Graphics Performance Guide

Okay. Is this necessary for nVidia stuff, since I've been getting annoying crashes, and video issues, or is this only for intel stuff?

I completed all the commands. System seems faster but still have only basic access to ubuntu visual effects. Am a basic user so please help and keep tech statements as straight forward as possible.
