Re: HOWTO: Jaunty Intel Graphics Performance Guide

This fix works like a charm on the eeePC 1000H. I was just about to give up on Ubuntu on my netbook because the Flash performance was terrible! This upgrade fixed it right up - Flash playback is very smooth now (probably as good as Windows).

Unfortunately this disabled my Broadcom wi-fi (BCM4328). Can anyone please tell me how to add the Broadcom driver into this kernel? Or point me in the direction of another fix? A netbook without wi-fi is like a car with no wheels.

After the first reboot the desktop did not cover the whole screen, and using xrandr only broke it, but after another reboot it worked OK on my inspiron.

This worked 100% on my Acer TravelMate 5720 - I do not appear to have the mttr bug (before and after outputs are the same). Very chuffed! TORCS performs nicely, the penguin slides as expected & AWN loads - awesome! Already gone through some updates to the drivers, not a single issue!!!!

Same here: Works nicely on an Amilo Si 3655.
    Thanks for the guide!

balduin, do the fn-brightness keys work for you, or the display switching (dvi-out, LVDS)?

I have scripts for the latter and gnome brightness panel applet for the former, but the brightness control is broken in 2.6.30-rc2 and -rc3 for me.

My mtrr problem still persists as well, as I explained in this post
Could you post the output of fixmtrr.sh for me, as well as the other relevant outputs please?

The only issue with this was that the new kernel broke vmware-player. VMWare modules failed to compile

If you notice that desktop effects refuses to be enabled, but 3D applications work fine otherwise, it means that your graphics adapter has been deliberately blacklisted due to crashes in compiz - this guide is not relevant to you.

Search the forum for compiz + blacklist + jaunty, and you'll find one of the many posts explaining this.
    I will thanks

Question Re: HOWTO: Jaunty Intel Graphics Performance Guide

Anyone tried Linux 2.6.30-rc4 yet? I'm compiling it now.

Re: HOWTO: Jaunty Intel Graphics Performance Guide

Ooops. I tried this and now I can't even boot into the desktop.

When I updated the Kernel I was prompted to either keep a modified file (I think a menu.lst or a grub file) or to use the packaged version.

I opted to keep the file and now I don't have any options to even boot into 9.04 from grub boot loader. It just shows the 8.10 kernels and nothing else. Then all I get is black screen.

Anyone know how to fix that or should I just try and revert it all?

P.S. the machine is a Dell Optiplex sx260.

    Thanks,

    Adam
