Ubuntu 8.10
Sound was working when I first booted windows. Installed Ubuntu 8.10 using unetbootin. I can't seem to get sound working at all. PCM volume is up, nothing is muted in alsamixer. I recompiled alsa-driver, lib, and utils.. no good results.
I am seeing this in dmesg:

---------------------------------
in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base, I appended this as the last line:
options snd-hda-intel model=auto (tried model=acer too)
Other folks seem to be getting sound to work out of the box on this notebook. I can't figure out what I am missing. Any tips?
