Unhappy Ubuntu 7.04, Epson 440 printer and Gutenprint driver (not).

    Hi
I'm using Ubuntu 7.04 (feisty) and an Epson Stylus Color 440 printer.
Previously the printer worked well with the Gutenprint driver.
But now when I try to print, nothing happens.
When I investigate the status it says "Stopped: job-stopped".
I can get the printer to work by using the stc.upp driver. I'd prefer to use the Gutenprint driver because it allows me choices for speed/quality etc. The stc.upp driver doesn't allow me to make any changes, just prints at one (good) quality.
So, can somebody explain why the Gutenprint driver doesn't work for me any more.
And how can I get it to work again?

Maybe this is not direct answer to your question, but Feisty is not supported anymore.Don´t try to upgrade to Gutsy because Gutsy is coming to the end of life this month. You can do fresh install of Hardy (it is long term support) or Itrepid or wait few weeks and then install Jaunty. In any case of fresh install it is good thing to have separate home partition. If you don´t have one here is solution.

Your printer may be directly supported in a newer release. Moving on to 8.04 or newer would really be a better idea than using an unsuported version.

But, apart from the nuclear option 'upgrade the whole operating system', isn't there a solution?
