How to install a Unicode font?

I've been trying to install Arial Unicode MS, but not having much success with it. Where am I supposed to put it? Do I just put it directly into /usr/share/fonts/truetype, or somewhere else? (I want this font to be available to all users on the system.)

After copying the file, are there any special commands I need to run in order to "register" it with the system?

I don't think you can install MS fonts in that matter.

Have you tried:
go to Synaptic Package Manager, then search all packages for msttcorefonts. That one supposedly contains Arial.

It contains Arial but not Arial Unicode MS. I need that Unicode font specifically.
