Vista Does Not Boot with Ubuntu

Hi all,
I had a dual boot with Vista / XP using 2 hard drives, i formatted XP and installed Ubuntu, when i choose Vista in the grub menu i get an error saying " error 11 Unrecognized Device String"
I tried booting from the Vista CD and doing a repair, but that didn't work. What needs to be changed in grub menu so Vista will boot??

OK after reading tons of threads, ive tried a few things
I booted from the Vista cd and went to a command prompt and typed
bootrec /fixboot that came back with an error saying element could not be found.
bootrec /fixmbr made things worst, the pc wouldn't boot at all after that, but i was able to reinstall grub and get Ubuntu back anyway.
I changed a line in the menu.lst file for Vista to root (hd1,1).
But i get an error 22 No such partition.

Could you post your menu.lst here, please? And also your /etc/fstab file.

For one, it appears you have a Windows install inside an extended partition on sda. That could cause a problem as I am imagining that could only be a logical drive, not a primary one. Now you are booting from the grub that is a good thing because that can be tweaked. Error 22 is good (better).

One more thing, there is another Ntfs partition that has my saved files on it, movies, programs, etc..

It's fixed, i had to disconnect the hard drive that Ubuntu was on and then i could fix Vista's Mbr, but it still didn't work until i changed it to hd1,0.
