How do you tether to a Motorola Q9H

I have a Motorola Q9H that I can tether to my laptop as a USB modem using Windows. I set the USB profile on the phone to "modem", plug in a USB cable and Windows see's it as a USB modem.

How do I do the same in Ubuntu 8.10? I've tried adding it in the network manager applet as "AT&T Tether" (or something similar to that) but when I connect the USB cable nothing happens.

USB works fine if I set the phone's USB profile to "mass storage". Ubuntu correctly mounts it as a USB drive. Not so as a modem though.

BTW the Q9H runs Windows Mobile 6.1 if that helps.

    TIA
