No sound in Java with Esound

I've always been having problems with sound on my setups. Two completely different computers have the exact same problem: sound is about one second too late. However, I recently found out that removing PulseAudio and installing Esound works, partly at least. The sound in YouTube for example is playing correctly now, without the one second delay. But Java applications don't play any sound at all. So how can I configure Java/Esound so that I have sound in Java?

I've reinstalled PulseAudio for now, I hope temporarily. Does anyone have any ideas?
