    Question Is my hardware compatible with Ubuntu?

    I tried Ubuntu Live CD v6 on 2 PCs longtime ago and it didn't work on them
    I'm posting my new specs here, I wanna know if this will work with Ubunutu with sound & Lan

    Motherboard: Gigabyte 945 GCL-S2L (onboard audio and video card)
    Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E4600 2.40 GHz
    Ram: 2 Kingston 1GB DDR2 667 MHZ RAM = 2GB total ram
    DVD Rom: TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-S182F

    A 2006 distro is incredibly old and the Kernel has progressed a lot since the 2.6.18 or whatever it was in Dapper. As said above try using the LiveCD to see what happens, that will let you experiment and if there are any issues you could post here and we could see if there are patches or workarounds.

    OK, I will download the LiveCD and try it, then I will post the results here, though due to my slow connection and other people needing internet, I might only post tomorrow or after

    That's fine whenever you're ready. If you have a really slow connection you give could shipit a go. https://shipit.ubuntu.com/ Though depending on where you are in the world it might take 6 or so weeks to get to you.

    I installed it and it worked perfectly, sound & internet worked OK
    Thnx for the help, I might pop up sometime to ask some questions
