    Parental Control

I have Ubuntu 8.10 and need to install some sort of parental control software. Google gives a lot of hits but they all seem 'years' old. I am new to Linux/Ubuntu - what is the latest suggestion/software re parental control?

Hmm... Well, I hear that the edubuntu pack contains some parental controls. You might want to look into that.

You might take a look at "Dans Guardian" to see if this is something of interest: http://dansguardian.org/?page=whatisdg

DansGuardian + Squid takes a little time to setup and understand it operates, but it is an excellent web filter and does it's job well.

It's probably easier to just move to Australia & let the government do it for.

I know, I really shouldn't have said that.

Try the pro-con latte add-on for firefox, it's an easily configured web filter. You can also use www.opendns.com/.

You could try the glubble firefox add on. It`s really annoying as an adult and I switch it off when I`m browsing but one of it`s features is that it will not let your kids open any page without your authorisation.

It has been awhile since I installed it, but Ubuntu CE (Christian Edition) seemed an easy way to get Dansguardian + Squid up and running quickly.
