    I don't know what imovie and idvd do, but look at mplayer, xine, and vlc. They'll play movies and dvd's.

    Not bad for a free replacement. I just used garageband this weekend and we actually had to finish the project in audacity to create stereo channels easily from a mono guitar input. Sure, Garageband could been set off the bat to do that, but we forgot. 4 hours of recording later, what saved us from having to record again?? Audacity!
