    Question Ibook g3 500mhz, Ubuntu 6.10

I was wondering would Ubuntu 6.10 run smoothly enough to surf, on an Ibook g3, 500mhz 640mb of ram?

Do you know the biggest harddrive i get get for this ibook? Is it possible to install a 320gb laptop pata drive, would it be recognized?

    Thanks!

No reason not to install 8.04 you have enough ram. Your processor will work a bit with either one and 8.04 is supported with updates and such. With my Ibook I have to watch the heat and quite often use an external fan. That is true in my Mac osx also.

Hi! First of all, don't bump your own threats, follow the guidelines

Second, the maximum amount of hard drive that Ibook G3 can have is 80GB. You can try do, but replacing an ibook hard drive is a long process.

With Ubuntu you should be able to do all that stuff. I have kubuntu with the same hardware configuration and I'm able to do a lot of things. I think Ubuntu is not that heavy, so you should be good to go

Where did you get the idea that an iBook only supports up to 80Gb drives?

My g3 has a huge crack on the face, and the touch mouse thingy is broken forever, and those little rubber feet underneath keep falling off, after I changed my disk.

    I don't necessarily recommend it.

Regarding 6.10, there's no reason to use such an old release. On mine, I run debian lenny, with no problems.
