Previously working wireless and sound not working

Hello

Like many others im a newbie and was working on linux for the past 1-2 months.. i had installed ubuntu 8.04 in which was working perfectly but wireless dint work but i got help from

which was then working fine. Just some one hour ago i installed some updates which were recommended by ubuntu itself and when i restarted the sound and wireless are not working..
I was trying to get my USB to work when i installed updates and now nothing is good.. Hope for an easy and fast solution..

one more additional info my network manager does not show wireless connection at all .. Only wired and point to point is shown..
