Lubuntu? LXDE Meet up with Mark Shuttleworth in Berlin (forward)

When will you release Lubuntu? Many people ask us this question recently. Actually, we do not have a distribution named Lubuntu… yet. So time to get in touch with the Ubuntu community and Mark Shuttleworth about an official cooperation. I finally met up with Mark today for breakfast here in Berlin and talked with him about LXDE.

As a first step Mark invited us to become a self-maintained project in the Ubuntu community. This means we will be able to manage LXDE inside Ubuntu, ultimately offering an Ubuntu derivate, ergo Lubuntu.

Congratulations to the whole LXDE team and community. I am looking forward to this milestone! Special thanks for supporting the growth of the community and being a link between Asia and Europe in the LXDE project to Arne Götje.

Good news. I hope you guys keep it light

I never got Xubuntu as it's not much lighter than Ubuntu although it could be.

I think many KDE 3 users will migrate to LXDE. Best of luck.

    Sounds promising....

A netbook-suitable version would be nice too!

    Sounds great.

Please don't take too many apps from GNOME like Xubuntu did, it caused a lot of bloat.

Hmm, I've been using LXDE for a while now. With the new KDE4 being so bloated and causing my special video programs to jerk, since it uses the GPU for special effects, LXDE is bound to take its rightful place next to Gnome.

    Cheers,

    Herman

I've been looking at LXDE and it looks awesome, I switched to Gnome for a while until a distro comes out with KDE 4.2 by default (I like KDE 4.2 it's awesome). Though LXDE looks really good, it's something I will give a try.
