It's getting closerrrrrrrrrr............
I tried Windows 7 and I definitely don't think it's any faster than Ubuntu, and it's not really any faster than Vista even. At worst it's just as slow as Vista, at best it's a couple seconds faster. Not to say that Vista is terribly slow, but Ubuntu is still by far the fastest for me.

I just hope that Linux keeps getting faster. If not, oh well, I will still be using Linux. Still free, still no viruses or spyware, and I have never ran so many computers ranging from 6 years old to 2 years old, that still run like champs. Not a single one running Windows.

And Ahh yes there it is the old recycle bug (vista) my main reason for UPGRADING to xp (get it Vista to Xp =up grade!!!!!) Hey if it makes it faster I see it as an upgrade to me.
Seirously though looking forward to ext4 too bad not going to be in jaunty
Still faster than Ubuntu for me. I don't live with cherry-picking examples like this. A truly scientific study would show multiple configurations and their benchmarks.
Oh, and IIRC, you're still not allowed to release Windows 7 benchmarks yet. If I am right, and MS were to see this, they would have a legal issue ahead of them.
I never understood the competition in the first place.
It's not like Win7 is going to be much different internally than Vista. It's NT6 vs NT 6.1 basically.
XP (Pre service pack 2) wasn't much different than Windows 2000. UI Changes, yes.. But otherwise, they're very similar.
You can polish a turd and it's still a turd.
What I find interesting is they won't release the microsoft internally used "minwin" OS. It's the NT6 Kernel without any GUI and a VERY minimal install. I've used "ServerCore" versions of Server 2008 (Which is Server2k8 without a GUI as well.. It's actually not too bad if you like typing sentences instead of commands. I felt like I was writing a book.

Dihydrogen Monoxide has killed more people this year due to overdose than murder, yet we do nothing about it..
