I read the whole thread and it's really hard for me to tell if it's a troll post or not. Why can't the guy finish his book on whatever distro he has now, be it windows, linux or whatever? I feel compelled to try to help him get a cd, but I'm not understanding why he needs it if his laptop already has something on it?

I think there is an explanation - by the time he reinstalled 7.04, it was already end of lifed and the repositories had been moved, thus he couldn't apt-get the stuff he needed.
