    oops, huwag ka ngang malisyoso.

ang tanong ni creek23 ay lehitemo at natural lamang, sinagot naman ito ni Jerome nang maayos na walang sobra o kulang.

For the casual users which is the majority, OS is no longer irrelevant, it is the software that works inside, OS is just a host to softwares. It is similar to how web browser will be an OS in Web2.0 and Cloud Computing in the future.

Ubuntu has already surpassed Windows, but majority of softwares are still tailor made for Windows xp, fortunately not yet for Windows7.

Softwares should be addressed primarily. A lot of talent is being wasted creating hundreds of distro that will turn out abandoned or stalemate for years, you can include Bayanihan Linux in there. If only those talent where to convert them of porting softwares to Linux.

Or help improve Major native genre software in Linux that casual users uses like a graphic editor that can match photoshop without using Wine. A good linear video editor that can support firewires or i link connection. WYSIWYG web page editor, last time i remember kompozer is lagging behind because it only has one developer and worst is he only do it on his free time. Cellphone data transfer software. Government softwares, etc.

Remember Microsoft is earning more on its MS Office line than its Windows OS market.

I think creek23 was just merely asking out of confusion-- maybe... But sir jsgotangco is right.. Ubuntu itself is a fruit of freedom, so it is fitting to say that it should not hinder our freedom of choice...

Any operating system has its strengths and weaknesses. It's like when buying cars...not everyone will buy and use the same car (because everyone has unique needs). But underneath the car, all of them have the same if not similar mechanical functions. Ang difference lang is how they would probably implement their engines (VTEC, CRDI, etc.)

You might want to check out http://developer.apple.com/opensource/index.html

Incidentally, if you have been using Google Chrome on Windows, you are probably aware that it is based on Webkit (an open source browser engine). But Webkit started as project in Apple and part of Safari.

I think I can confidently say that I am very pragmatic on tools which finishes the job with flying colors that's why I'm not partial to any system that I use. But given my line of work (Technical Sales), an OS X system provides the best environment for productivity and development. Since we do services related to servers, I still have to know my Linux essentials and more so its a good balance.

Heh, its been a while since I've been to Cebu, but I've been thinking of coming over for a personal trip before this quarter ends.

Have you guys joined a ce-gnu-lug meetup? They are planning one on Feb. 29. They are fairly active too. http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/ce-gnu-lug/
