    Re: ALSA Upgrade Script

ok i performed all the instructions manually but got stuck at alsa-utils installation
i kept giving error for lpanelw library even after making a link in the folder and so i am pretty sure i won't be able to get sound after rebooting because i think i won't be able to uncheck
    mute

    Cool Re: ALSA Upgrade Script

I am trying to upgrade to the latest ALSA (1.20) for use with a K10N780SLIX3-WiF HDA-NVIDIA due to choppy, staticy, and echoy audio.

    Code:
    lspci:
00:07.0 Audio device: nVidia Corporation Unknown device 0774 (rev a1)

    rec9140@rec9140-quad-desktop ~ $ aplay -l

I am using the latest of the script posted in the first message.

    First run I get:

    Code:
checking pkg-config is at least version 0.9.0... yes
checking for ALSA... configure: error: Package requirements (alsa >= 1.0.11) were not met:

    No package 'alsa' found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables ALSA_CFLAGS
and ALSA_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.

    alsa-plugins-1.0.20 configure failed
See attachment for full log, lots of compiling info....

Looking here I did an :

    Code:
    rec9140@rec9140-quad-desktop /var/log $ export ALSA_LIBS=/usr/src/Alsa-1.0.20/alsa-lib-1.0.20
Which gives the second log, but still doesn't install the updated ALSA.

From uxchecker, full uxchecker -a included in attachment.

    Code:
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    - Ubuntu revision
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Distributor ID: Ubuntu

    Release: 8.04
    Codename: hardy

    ------------------------------------------
Any hints or suggestions on where to go next....

    Thanks!

    Re: ALSA Upgrade Script

    hello,

    checking form.h presence... yes
    checking for form.h... yes
checking for new_panel in -lpanelw... no
configure: error: panelw library not found

    the solution

You will need to add those symbolics links (only if you got the error) and restart the installation from the last “sudo ./configure” :

    sudo ln -s libpanelw.so.5 /usr/lib/libpanelw.so
    sudo ln -s libformw.so.5 /usr/lib/libformw.so
    sudo ln -s libmenuw.so.5 /usr/lib/libmenuw.so
    sudo ln -s libncursesw.so.5 /lib/libncursesw.so

    Enjoy:

    Re: ALSA Upgrade Script

    DESPERATELY NEED ADVICE
New to Ubuntu.Understand that it will take some effort to get to ropes with Ubuntu.I have been battling now for 2 weeks to get sound on system. No sound at all.Clean install on new system. On dual boot with windows.Sound in windows works just wonderfull,no problems at all.
Ubuntu,TOTAL different story.Tried everything I could find in forums. Also AlsaALSA Upgrade Script & Multiple Sound Solution (ALSA w Pulseaudio)section
But to no avail.Any advice will be appreciated.Volume controle shows, volume is not on mute. In sound preferences everything is on Aoto detect. And I have tried all different configurations.
Pulse audio volume controle shows playback:Audio on Mute[Red Dot] and Output Devices:HDA Intel-ALC883 Analog"Audio also on Mute-Red Dot"
Also not sure if I am doing it corectly[Upgrading the ALSA script],but when I try typing this in Terminal :sudo ./AlsaUpgrade-1.0.x-rev-1.17.sh -di
I get this :[sudo] pasword for anjojo:
But when I try typing my pasword for anjojo, nothing is typed. No matter what keys I type.

Any advice will be be enormously appreciated.

it's normal you don't see if anything was typed; it's hidden in Ubuntu by default.
Just hit ENTER after typing your password

    Re: ALSA Upgrade Script

    Hi,

With the release of 1.0.21 recently, is there an upgrade script available? Sorry if it's been released and I'm too dense to have found ti already.

    Thanks,
    Perdignus.

    Re: ALSA Upgrade Script

For my post regarding the ASRock K10 MB with onboard sound.

The error that seems to be the root of issues for me is:

    Fetched 1429kB in 3s (472kB/s)
    Setting up base-files (4.0.1ubuntu5.8.04.7) ...

    Configuration file `/etc/issue'
==> Modified (by you or by a script) since installation.
==> Package distributor has shipped an updated version.
What would you like to do about it ? Your options are:
    Y or I : install the package maintainer's version
    N or O : keep your currently-installed version
D : show the differences between the versions
Z : background this process to examine the situation
The default action is to keep your current version.
    *** issue (Y/I/N/O/D/Z) [default=N] ? dpkg: error processing base-files (--configure):
EOF on stdin at conffile prompt
    Errors were encountered while processing:
    base-files
    E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
    Reading package lists...
    Building dependency tree...
    [/code]

When I followed another thread about the LinuxAnt DEB file upgrade, this error came up, I selected Y, and sound started working before dpkg was completed with the LinuxAnt DEB.

So not sure what caused the error me or something else during the initial install.
