Linux has a new user and fan! Thanks to user soundcheck!!
    Mikrophone works with this script!!!!

I installed Kubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx on my brothers laptop (Sony Vaio VGN-TX3HP) which has a builtin soundcard recognised as ALC262.

His microphone was extremely silent. After installing the new ALSA drivers with your script the micro works perfect!!

Now he can use skype. (This is the most important application for him, since his girlfriend lives thousands of miles away from him...)

    THANK YOU!!!

    P.S.

I added this line at the end of the file /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
    Code:
    options snd-hda-intel model=auto
I don't know if this entry is really necessary, but it works and you know: Never touch a running system

    Re: ALSA Upgrade Script

Is there a way to avoid the reboot after the upgrade?

ie. can you do something like /etc/init.d/alsa restart instead?

It's a bit more complicated but I think it can be done.
You would have to unload all modules used for your card, and that cannot be done if any program is locking them. The safest would be to open VT1, stop GDM, unload all the modules, load them again and start GDM again.
And modules have to be unloaded in particular order because of dependencies, here list of modules loaded for my HDA ATI SB based card:
    Code:
    alen@witch:~$ lsmod | grep snd
    snd_hda_codec_via 50849 1
    snd_hda_intel 20895 4
    snd_hda_codec 86936 2 snd_hda_codec_via,snd_hda_intel
    snd_hwdep 5604 1 snd_hda_codec
    snd_pcm_oss 34539 0
    snd_mixer_oss 13897 1 snd_pcm_oss
    snd_pcm 71806 4 snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_pcm_oss
    snd_seq_dummy 1434 0

    snd_seq 47594 6 snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi,snd_seq_midi_event
    snd_timer 18678 2 snd_pcm,snd_seq
    snd_seq_device 6020 5 snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq

    Re: ALSA Upgrade Script

    Hi all,

I have a main-board (ASUS K8N4-E Deluxe) with a "Realtek ALC850 rev 0" sound-chip. The chip is driven by the "Intel ICH" and the module "snd_intel8x0".

The following problem I got, that only the left and right speakers are playing (I have a 5.1 sound system) even on spdif(coax) still stereo. I have google around and there are 100 topic on this problem in the years 2005 til 2007. But i have not found a suitable solution.
I have updated my system to Alsa 1.0.23 i am running kernel 2.6.32-02063207 the Ubuntu version is 9.10 with XBMC (xbmcbuntu)

I have put a alsa-info file for info (I zipt it was to large).

I hope that someone can help me get 5.1 analog or digital (spdif) working.

This sounds promising to me but still a bit beyond my comfort zone with script handling. I guess there's no way to simply upgrade using synaptic?

    Re: ALSA Upgrade Script

Yes I have the snapshot version installed.

    Edit:
Oh my god, I'm a huge mistake!
"Note that you can not get the ALSA utility "speaker-test -c6" to work over the digital audio output. speaker-test only uses left and right channels, the other channels are not sent. To test a digital connection in multi-channel mode you need to use a surround sound AC3 or DTS sample file and mplayer."

I will retake all the steps I take for the last days! I will report the outcome.

    eureka !!!

I had found the solution 10 times. Only never read that speaker-test on S/Pdif play only left and right.

I had to put my device on "surround51:CARD=CK804,DEV=0"

Its all and put AC3 and DTS to pass-though.
