I don't think this thread belongs here in particular, but there are a number of reason, better security, it's free(as in beer and freedom) and it has a great support network.

    Re: Why Linux??

There are viruses for linux, but they are very rare, and the damage they do is normally very limited, as is their ability to self propigate.

linux also normally ships with a very powerfull firewall installed(go IPtables).

The biggest thing I like to point at is the customisability and choice, don't like firefox? Install opera, konqueror, kazekage or something similar. Anything can be replaced if you look around for long enough.

    A few reasons might be:

    1. Next to no viruses
    2. Free (in all senses of the word)
    3. Stability (anyone who has tried Vista can relate)
    4. Speed
    5. Support
    6. Works on a much larger number of hardware configurations

    Re: Why Linux??

I just like it better. Linux-based operating systems like Ubuntu feel, to me, more obedient and responsive. They're also less cluttered than Windows (well, Gnome-based distros are).

I also like the thought of being more connected to the people who write the software, and to other people who use it.

speed was what my brother notices about it, he says it's much faster then xp and vista.

I have vista installed on a separate hdd i find myself using it alot less everyday. Right now i'm on vista because i am needing to use dreamweaver and photoshop cs4. If it wasn't for those applications i wouldn't use windows at all.
