    A Problem with Update Manager?

I'm running 8.10 and tonight got the red triangle telling me to get some important updates from Update Manager. So I ran it and got the following error message after clicking on 'Check':
    Code:
W: A error occurred during the signature verification. The repository is not updated and the previous index files will be used.GPG error: http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com intrepid-updates Release: The following signatures were invalid: BADSIG 40976EAF437D05B5 Ubuntu Archive Automatic Signing Key <ftpmaster@ubuntu.com>

    W: Failed to fetch http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/intrepid-updates/Release

W: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
Could someone give me some idea of what's wrong, why it's wrong, and what I should do to correct it?

    Have you tried running
    Code:
    sudo apt-get update
    in a terminal?

I hadn't but I just have. I get exactly the same error message as I had with Update Manager, except with a new and rather bizarre extra comment at the end:
    Code:
W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problems
So I ran apt-get update again and got exactly the same message again!

That was rather redundant wasn't it...
It looks like for some reason it doesn't like the GPG signature. Someone else had that yesterday and I don't know if anyone had an answer or not. I can copy the url and go there so I know it's not down.

Sorry but I don't have the answer for you, someone with more knowledge will have to jump in with an answer on this one.

hmm have you changed any repository lately or edited /etc/apt/sources.list?

    Code:
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get upgrade
If them coammdns dont help off the top of my head you could go into software sources and make sure you have the correct server set or try a different mirror.

He tried update and it told him to run update...

Maybe upgrade will do it. He went offline so thanks I'll remember that.

    Thanks tuxxy

I think I might have done but I really don't recall which one was most recent.

Is there any way you can tell from what I posted in post #4 which of my repository list is causing the problem? Or is it a more global problem?

Open system > admin > software sources and select one from the download server tab.
