    Re: Auto-builds, mythbuntu-repos, mythbuntu-testing PPA - Questions, Issues, etc

Im having a problem upgrading from 0.23.1 to 0.24, in the Mythbuntu Control Center gui under repository's it only lists 0.22, 0.23 and 0.23.1, so i went in to
    Code:
    sudo dpkg-reconfigure mythbuntu-repos
That all goes smoothly giving me the options of 0.23, 0.23.1 and 0.24. Then i get to this screen (as in attachment) where it asks me for a password but i cant see what the password is i presume it should be where the space is inbetween the words "enter below" on the start of the forth line.

There is something weird going on can anyone shed some light on this? thanks

    Im running 9.10

    Couple issues.

MythTV 0.24 isn't available on 9.10. You can't update to it with the Mythbuntu repos because we don't provide builds for it. There would be nothing to download.

In that respect the MCC plugin is working correctly. The debconf portion is busted (since it is showing you 0.24 as an option). I've looked at the code and see where it was broke. It should be fixed in tomorrows build of mythbuntu-repos.

This probably isn't what you wanted to hear, but the only way you are going to get 0.24 (which BTW isn't released yet) from mythbuntu-repos is to upgrade to at least 10.04.

Just a quick question: I'm interested in trying out .24. If I upgrade, will I have to reconfigure my backend?

I'm not sure. I don't run 0.24. You won't have to completely reconfigure it as the database would be upgraded and any settings would be in the database. If there are any new settings you would need to configure the backend in order to configure them (obviously).

Note that you cannot go back to a previous version with backing up and restoring your database.

    Re: Auto-builds, mythbuntu-repos, mythbuntu-testing PPA - Questions, Issues, etc

Is there a page where I can see which patches other than the ones already committed upstream are being added?
The reason I'm asking is because I seem to be affected by the bug mentioned here:
    http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/8526
The ticket has some patches, but I'm not sure if they are applied here like other patches or not?

    Thanks in advance,

    Re: Auto-builds, mythbuntu-repos, mythbuntu-testing PPA - Questions, Issues, etc

The patches from Myth ticket 8526 do not appear to be applied to mythbuntu package based on svn 26766. I am able to cleanly apply the patches to the mythbunut package source. I was having some trouble with using debuild under my normal environment. With help from superm1 on IRC I now have the package building with the patches from ticket 8526. Here is a quick howto:

    1) Setup a pbuilder environment. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PbuilderHowto Make sure you read about half way down about enabling the universe repo.

    2) create a directory to store the mythtv source code. Change into that directory. My command was: mkdir /usr/src/mythtv-0.24-26766 (you may have to use sudo to create a directory under /usr/src and then chown it to you account) and then:
    cd /usr/src/mythtv-0.24-26766

    3) apt-get source mythtv (this requires that you have a deb-src repository setup for mythtv. mine looks like this:
    deb-src http://uk.autobuilds.mythbuntu.org/m...tu/0.24/ubuntu lucid main )

    4) The apt-get source command above will download the mythtv source code into a directory below the current one. Change into that directory.
    My command was:
    cd mythtv-0.24.0~trunk26766

    5) Change to the debian/patches directory and save any patches you want to apply to Myth int this directory. My command was:
    cd debain/patches

    6) Add the patch file names to the series file. I did an echo <patch_file_name> >> series

    7) Change back to the source directory from the apt-get source command.
    My command was:
    cd ../..

    8) Build a .dsc file for pbuilder with:
    debuild -S -sa -us -uc

    9) Build package with:
    pbuilder. sudo pbuilder build *.dsc

    10) Wait... The finished package will appear in /var/cache/pbuilder/result

Hopefully you can get your own package built.

Thanks for the howto, but I noticed the patches got applied upstream(r26827) and built by fixes.
I'ĺl save this little howto though, might come in handy

Does anyone know if 0.24 is available on the autobuilds? I am trying to upgrade to 0.24 from 0.23.1 provided by JYA but even after deleting the JYA repositories and enabling the autobuilds Update Manager never finds the 0.24 packages? TIA.

    0.24 is available on auto-builds:
    http://www.mythbuntu.org/mythtv/0.24

You can check out the builds at https://launchpad.net/~mythbuntu/+archive/0.24

If they're not showing up as updates, try switching to the "PPA" repository in MCC. If they're still not showing up, try looking in synaptic to see if the version number on jya's repo is conflicting.
