Pen Drive Issue

Hi guys this problem is regarding my Kingston 32 GB pen Drive. Just receicved it as a gift from my aunt staying in the US. But unfortunately there is some problem with the pen drive. Whenever I try to put some data in it seems to fit insiade the drive but if i unmount the drive and then put it in the USB 2.0 again. The intitial folders are there but I'm not able to see the folders inside the folders they all change to +_ (plus/minus). Tried to format the Pen Drive with DOS as well as Linux. But the problem still occurs. Any help regarding this will be greatly appreciated!!

Yes I've tried that tried this at office at my borther's place on my notebook. But still getting the same error. Can't send it back to aunt doesn't look and feel good!!

Forgot to mention. Just in case it matters. My OS is Microsuck XP @ home, office, brother's place. Ubuntu 8.10 @ home and notebook.

what file format are you using on the pendrive? also can you reformat?

Create a DOS partiton first then create a FAT 32 on the Drive. I use the gparted for formatting the same don't remember the terminal command for command if some can help!!!
