Mencoder can convert rmvb to avi. From avi, you can convert it to almost any format:
Code:sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install mencoder mencoder input.rmvb -oac mp3lame -lameopts preset=128 -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=1200 -ofps 25 -of avi -o output.avi
Thank you for your help...now I can erase windows and just run ubuntu.
Sorry, but you can watch rmvb's on linux. =)
With what program? I've tried to play a movie with Totem to no avail.
Also I tried the command listed in the previous post, but it gives the following error:

Hi etereo,
The svn MPlayer will certainly play such files. I used a sample file on the MPlayer samples site and played it as follows with MPlayer:
I manually selected the audio and video codecs as by default MPlayer does a bit of searching with this particular file to find the appropriate onesCode:andrew@skamandros~/Desktop$ mplayer -vc rv40 -ac ra10cook \ > hotel_california_ra5.1_640x480_30s.rmvb MPlayer dev-SVN-r28288-4.2.4 (C) 2000-2009 MPlayer Team CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU T5500 @ 1.66GHz (Family: 6, Model: 15, Stepping: 2) CPUflags: MMX: 1 MMX2: 1 3DNow: 0 3DNow2: 0 SSE: 1 SSE2: 1 Compiled for x86 CPU with extensions: MMX MMX2 SSE SSE2 Playing hotel_california_ra5.1_640x480_30s.rmvb.
